Globe iPhone 3G pricing reduced before launch

It's usually not a good sign when you a company drops pricing, even before the product is out in the market. Remember the PS3 pricing debacle of last year?

Apparently, due to 'popular demand,' Globe is reducing (dropping is such an extreme exaggeration) prices for the Apple iPhone 3G by around P1,500 for the cash-out portion across all plans, including prepaid.

Just wondering... is the demand not popular enough to merit a bigger price reduction?

Globe iPhone 3G is coming

I was in Robinson's Galleria when I saw this iPhone 3G banner in Globe's retail store:

While we're already sure that Globe will launch the iPhone 3G on August 22 in the Philippines, what's not clear are the following questions:

  • Do we have to activate it on the store or can it be done at home?
  • Do we need a Mac or is a PC sufficient in setting up an iTunes account?
  • Will we have an iTunes store and can we buy OPM songs?
  • Will there be a line in Globe stores on August 22?
  • Will the iPhone 3G be sold in Apple stores in the Philippines, on behalf of Globe?

  • Those who are on corporate plans will certainly line up for the iPhone 3G come Aug. 22, as are those who are on platinum plans. I just wonder how many iPhone 3Gs Globe will sell under the P40K prepaid plans.
