Topic: Technologies used in MacUser.me

MacUser.me runs on bleeding-edge open source web applications.

The forum uses FluxBB, a fork of PunBB. FluxBB is very fast, offering only essential features, without the bloat that slows down other forums. It uses a plug-in architecture so that you can easily add features that you can't live without. FluxBB also generates beautified links and is Search Engine Optimized. Now, you can share links without the other person asking you what the link is about.

The blog software we use is Habari. Its still in 0.5 Alpha, but is quite usable enough to be deployed. It was written by former WordPress programmers who wanted to write a new blog that was made for the bloggers of today. Habari is also very fast, and generates beautified links.

MacUser.me is hosted in a shared cPanel account while starting out, and will be upgraded as traffic grows. The automated email forwarding script will be created in PHP and XML and will work with the cPanel API to create aliases without intervention.

Next in our list of to-dos are RSS Feeds and BBCode buttons to simplify posting. Please bear with us.
