I successfully installed a low cost USB TV Tuner on my Intel iMac. Here’s a step by step of what I did…

1. I bought a a cheap USB TV Tuner from CDR-King.

2. Insert the Tuner on a USB Port and run System Profiler. Make sure that your Mac detects it as “TVBOX” with Vendor ID of 0×6000 and Product ID of 0×0001. Anything else may not work!

3. Purchase or download a trial copy of EyeTV TV Software.

4. Keeping the TV Tuner connected, and an antenna installed to it’s port, run the EyeTV software and go to Preferences. Make sure to choose Miglia and TVMicro as the manufacturer and model.

5. Final Step… add your channels in the Programs Window.

After the last step, you’ll be able to watch all the local channels you want with a regular antenna. You can also watch cable or satellite feeds if you have the service.

All in all, I spent just $33 (PhP1480) for the USB TV Tuner and a license to EyeTV. I can now watch, pause and record TV shows on my iMac.
